Karnataka To Set Up EV Recharge Centres In Future To Support EV Growth

The state has been accelerating efforts to grow and bolster the adoption of electric mobility

To met the demand of the growing electric vehicle ecosystem in the state, recharge centres will be opened across Karnataka in the near future to help support the growth, Karnataka Minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture V Sunil Kumar said on Tuesday.

“As more electric vehicles are coming up, electricity recharge centres will be opened all over the state,” Kumar told reporters at the BJP state headquarters Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru.

“We have given the responsibility to various Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) to open recharge centres at the district centres and tourist centres,” he added.

The state has been accelerating efforts to grow and bolster the adoption of electric mobility.

In a bid to attract more investment into the state, the Karnataka Cabinet had recently approved two key amendments to the Karnataka Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy, deciding to give a 15 per cent capital subsidy to investors in the electric vehicle sector.

Additionally, the government will also give a production linked incentive of 1 per cent of turnover for a period of five years from the first year of commercial operations for large, mega, ultra, super mega EV assembly and manufacturing units.

Last month, Karnataka Medium and Large Industries Minister Jagadish Shettar announced that US-based C4V is willing to invest over Rs 4,000 crore in the state in the electric battery manufacturing sector.

He added that the C4V is a leading company with over a hundred patents and lithium battery cell manufacturing and technology. The company’s investment of Rs 4,015 crore in the state will create more than 4,000 jobs, Shettar said.
