Taiwan-based Primax Electronics has said that it is expanding the production capacity of smartphone-use compact camera modules (CCMs) by 10 per cent at the end of the second quarter of 2016 or by the beginning of third quarter of 2016.
Primax earns 30 per cent of its revenue from smartphone use CCMs. The company’s primary market is China, where vendors like Xiaomi Technology, BBK, Oppo, Meizu and Lenovo being major clients of the company. The company is slowing starting to target the Indian market for smartphone-use CCMs as it believes that India could well be a strategic region for them. Currently 50 to 60 per cent of the company’s demand if coming from China but this figure is expected to change in the coming years, with India turning out to be a big market for smartphone companies.
Recently, Foxconn has announced that they will build a $10-billion facility in Maharashtra to manufacture iPhones. In the last couple of months, India has also seen lot of Chinese smartphone vendors announcing their plans to manufacture in this country.
Primax Electronics is also expected to sowing increase their shipments in the country as demand starts growing.
