Tesla Appoints Leadership Positions For India Operations

Tesla India has appointed leaders to Policy and Business Development head, HR head and Charging Infrastructure head positions

Tesla has made key appointments for leadership operation in India. The company has appointed IIM Bangalore alumnus Manuj Khurana as its Policy and Business Development head for India operations. Khurana has previously worked with the likes of John Deere, Accenture, Invest India, and some other organisations in the past. He has also founded a company called NewMo, which is into consulting around the new mobility.

Similarly, the company has also appointed Nishant as the country head of charging infrastructure. Nishant was earlier associated with Ather Energy as its head of business development and government relationships. He has also worked with Schlumberger in the past. Chithra Thomas has been given the charge of Tesla’s Country HR Leader role. She, in her last role, was associated with Reliance Retail as the VP and Head of HR. Chithra has also worked with the likes of HP and Walmart earlier.

“Tesla India is moving full speed ahead with building local team. We did a little digging, there have been few new hirings. First as was reported in Media, Manuj Khurana (Policy and Business Development) was one of the first new hires,” read a Tweet posted by Tesla India Club. Two other tweets announcing appointments of Nishant and Thomas were also posted on the same account.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari recently said that lithium-ion batteries would be manufactured fully in the country in the next six months and India will become number one electric vehicle maker in the world in due course of time. He added that the government wants to encourage automakers to introduce flex-fuel engines in India and he is in the final discussion with manufacturers.

He also mentioned that India is moving ahead towards making electric vehicles. In due course of time, India will be the number one electric vehicle(EV) maker in the world. All reputed brands are present in India. Gadkari said indigenous battery technology will make EV the most effective means of transport.

Transport Minister of India, in an interaction with the Reuters, had also said that the government of India will ensure that the production cost for Tesla is lower than that of China if the electric cars giant manufactures electric vehicles in India. India, at the moment does not have a comprehensive EV policy in place.

The government of Karnataka had recently noted that Tesla will be opening a electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Karnataka. Elon Musk, in December 2020, had tweeted and confirmed about Tesla’s plans for foraying into the country. Tesla was recently offered land to build an EV manufacturing facility by the government of Rajasthan.

Tesla has registered its Indian entity in the name of Tesla India Motors And Energy Private Limited in Bengaluru Karnataka, according to documents filed in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). Tesla has incorporated itself with an authorised capital of Rs 15 lakh and a paid-up capital of Rs one lakh. Vaibhav Taneja, Venkat­rangam Sreeram, and David Jon Feinstein were appointed as the three directors of the new company.
