The customer initially approached Electrolube India as they were experiencing supply issues with their existing solution as a result of the pandemic

Electrolube, has today announced the enormous success of its new sustainable range of epoxy resins in India and would like to highlight the background and development of one such resin, ER7006. This new ‘Bio’ resin, as per the company, was initially developed to offer a rapid solution, but also has the benefit of being a cost-effective and high performance alternative to some conventional resins. ER7006 utilises a plant based local material, suitable for recycling and pressing to produce a natural oil that is a perfect partner for epoxy resins and provides a good mixed ratio by weight bio content.

“This case study is just one example of the speed at which Electrolube acts, striving to rise to the challenge and provide a positive solution. ER7006 is also able to protect up to the standard of IP68 and the Electrolube technical team would be delighted to assist customers further with this,” noted Padmanabha Shakthivelu, General Manager of Electrolube India.

Two-part unfilled viscous epoxy resin

ER7006, as the company informed, is a two-part unfilled viscous epoxy resin, which is ideal for UPS – connector, CCTV camera cable gland sealing, wiring harness adhesive, encapsulation, bonding and potting of electrical components. With a 1:1 ratio for ease of processing, ER7006 provides high bond strength, excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates and highlevels of mechanical stability. Resistant to aqueous alkaline, acid and saline solutions, ER7006 offers excellent flexibility, impact and corrosion resistance, as well as providing a wide operating temperature range -40 to +150°C with excellent high temperature performance. The ER7006 offers a 30 minute cure time at 80°C or 24 hours at room temperature.

The customer initially approached Electrolube India as they were experiencing supply issues with their existing solution as a result of the pandemic. The customer emphasised the time critical element of the project to avoid line downtime. The initial solution offered by the Indian team did not meet the strict viscosity requirements, but Electrolube, infamous for their solutions based approach, developed an Encapsulation Resin with appropriate viscosity during the weekend.

“Understanding the urgency, the initial delivery of ER7006 took place on a Sunday morning. This particular application relates to protection of a CCTV camera cable entry port, with the additional requirement of suitability to IP67. In effect, this requirement stipulates that the unit is completely protected against sand and dust and can be dropped into a unit of water one metre deep for a period of half an hour without incurring damage. ER7006 has proven to be eminently suitable for this application and standard,” read Electolube’s official statement.

Ron Jakeman, Managing Director of Electrolube, comments, “We are absolutely delighted with the response we have had from Indian manufacturers. It has been incredible and we are excited to be at the forefront of plant- based electro-chemical development.”
