Wipro Signs Multi-Year Contract From Automotive Supplier Major Marelli

According to a report by the Economic Times, Wipro has received a multi-year global contract for automotive engineering services from Marelli. As part of this agreement, Wipro would be be using its Engineering NXT framework and strong automative engineering expertise to establish a software engineering factory for Marelli, said the company in press release.

As reported earlier, Wipro has been an IT partner to Marelli, helping the company standardise, simplify and enhance their IT services at a global level. This would be an additional engineering services contract. 

Improvement in Marelli’s operational efficiency 

Marelli is a prominent global supplier to the automative sector with operational headquarters in Saitama, Japan and Corbetta, Italy. This would also help in improving Marelli’s operational efficiency and expedite launch of cutting-edge technologies on connectivity and sustainable mobility solutions.

Harmeet Chauhan, senior vice president, Industrial and Engineering Services, Wipro said, “Our EngineeringNXT platform of service offerings, backed by extensive experience with leading automotive OEMs and suppliers globally, will accelerate Marelli’s ability to innovate at scale, via this strategic engagement. This partnership is a proof point of the value we bring to the automotive industry and builds upon our growing footprint in Europe and Japan, which are strategic markets for us.”

Other Opportunities 

On the other hand, Detlef Juerss, Chief Commercial, Engineering and Technology Officer, Marelli, said their company is scaling its software engineering capabilities globally in view of the rapid evolution of connectivity and mobility. 

The Marelli-Wipro partnership would help in driving leadership in mobility and transform products, partners to future market need. Analysts also shared that the automotive clients are enormously looking for offshore partners in engineering. 

Pareekh Jain, founder of Pareekh Consulting shared that, “This deal is important for two reasons. First it shows the intent of automotive enterprises to engage Indian engineering providers for becoming future ready. Second deals are being continued in pandemic and enterprises are thinking about their long-term competitiveness.”
