Global Chip Sales Surge In Q2

Global semiconductor sales reached $403.3 billion in Q2 2026, surging 35.1 per cent sequentially as AI, computing and electronics demand accelerate chip consumption worldwide.

Global semiconductor sales climbed to $403.3 billion in the second quarter of 2026, marking a 35.1 per cent increase from the previous quarter and signalling a sharp acceleration in worldwide demand for electronic components. The figures, released by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), also point to a stronger-than-expected trajectory for the chip market this year.

The momentum intensified in June, when semiconductor sales reached $134.5 billion, up 123.6 per cent from June 2025 and 9.7 per cent from May. The monthly figures, compiled by World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), are calculated using a three-month moving average.

The scale of the increase is significant because semiconductor demand sits at the foundation of almost every major electronics segment. Chips are increasingly being deployed across artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, data-centre systems, high-performance computing, smartphones, automotive electronics, industrial equipment and connected devices.

AI-related computing is also increasing the semiconductor content of modern systems. Accelerators, high-bandwidth memory, networking silicon, power-management ICs and advanced processors are creating demand across multiple layers of the electronics supply chain. This makes the latest sales acceleration more than a recovery in conventional chip consumption; it reflects expanding silicon requirements across emerging computing architectures.

Geographically, the Americas recorded the strongest year-on-year growth in June at 160.9 per cent, followed by Asia Pacific and other markets at 124.4 per cent and China at 112.8 per cent. Europe grew 75.2 per cent, while Japan recorded a 39 per cent increase. On a month-to-month basis, sales rose across every region tracked by SIA, led by China at 10.4 per cent, Asia Pacific at 9.8 per cent and the Americas at 9.6 per cent.

The acceleration is also lifting expectations for the full-year semiconductor market. SIA expects global chip sales to exceed $1.5 trillion in 2026, with second-quarter sales substantially outpacing the first quarter.

For electronics manufacturers, the numbers indicate a market expanding not simply through higher unit volumes, but through rising semiconductor intensity. As systems become more computationally demanding, the amount and sophistication of silicon embedded in products continue to increase.

The Q2 performance therefore places semiconductor capacity, advanced packaging, memory availability and chip manufacturing infrastructure at the centre of the next phase of electronics growth.
