A five horse power (HP) solar-powered water pumping project that will solve the water problems of 26 families was inaugurated by the newly appointed Mandi Parishad president Jot Singh Bisht at Ban Gaon village in Tehri Garhwal district.
Bisht congratulated the villagers for installing the one-of-its-kind solar power pumping project with an estimated cost of Rs 49.45 lakh. Bisht said the system of pumping water was not only cheap but also environment-friendly and should be replicated in the villages where-ever possible. He also inaugurated Rajiv Gandhi Sewa Kendra constructed for the benefit of villagers.
The area was suffering due to the paucity of drinking water supply which had ended today, he added.
Zila Panchayat member Jodh Singh Rawat said the village was suffering due to absence of adequate drinking water supply so he thought of experimenting with solar-powered pumping technique which had assured a continuous supply of drinking water in each household of the village. Gram Pradhan Reshma Devi thanked Jodh Singh Rawat for his support in installing the project. Mussoorie MC president Manmohan Singh Mall also commended the efforts of the villagers and congratulated them on the new pumping project.
State Congress vice-president Jot Singh Bisht thanked the Harish Rawat government for appointing him as the Mandi Parishad president. His tenure would be of three years in which he would work towards developing agriculture produce market centres, especially in remote hill areas of the state, he stated.
He said the Congress was busy preparing its manifesto for the elections. The manifesto would reflect the wishes of the people as important suggestions from the gram panchayat, zila panchayat and vidhan sabha level would be incorporated through party meetings scheduled on December 28. The Harish Rawat government had brought development in the state and the issues that had been left out would be incorporated in the manifesto for the next tenure of Congress if voted to power in the state, Bisht added.
