Previously, the construction and installation of the charging stations were halted due to objections raised by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation regarding the locations of several stations.
The much-awaited public charging stations for electric vehicles in Chandigarh are set to become operational by the end of January. In this initial phase, the Chandigarh Renewable Energy, Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST) aims to activate 56 charging guns at five different locations throughout the city. Currently, the installation work at these sites is in its final stages, with expectations for the stations to be fully operational by January 31.
Previously, there was a significant delay in the construction and installation of these stations. This interruption was due to objections from the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation concerning the proposed sites of some of the charging stations. However, a recent agreement between CREST and the Municipal Corporation has resolved these location issues, allowing the project to proceed.
The tendering process had initially led to the selection of two companies for the installation of these charging stations. Nonetheless, the project encountered a setback when the Municipal Corporation raised concerns. It took the intervention and directives of UT administrator Banwarilal Purohit to finally resolve the matter and greenlight the continuation of the installation work.
