Aakash 4 to be sold for Rs 1500 only!

Friday, December 20, 2013: We all remember the cheapest tablet that was unveiled in India- Aakash! Well, it is all set to become cheaper after Kapil Sibal, telecom minister has announced a further subsidised Aakash 4, which will ship for just Rs 1,500.

The main aim of the Aakash project was to get computing devices in the hands of millions of students across the sub-continent. However, what followed was a series of delays and unfulfilled orders. However, Sibal is now claiming that Aakash 4 will go on sale starting January next year. He shared this with PTI.

The latest is that the company behind Aakash, Datawind will not be the sole manufacturer. The tablet will now be manufactured by “several players”. According to a Register report, Sibal has said that 18 manufacturers have tendered for the lucrative contract, although formal bids will open on Friday.
