The new production unit will increase the manufacturing capacity of solar inverters for the company.
ABB, the company known for its solar inverters has expanded its production unit to support the vastly maturing local photovoltaic (PV) market. The new production unit that manufactures the PVS800 product range was set-up in Bengaluru last year.
The production line is said to be capable of producing more than 500 MW on an annual basis.
The company is looking to take advantage of the growing PV market, which is being ably supported by the Government of India.
Since the end of 2011, ABB has installed over 100 MW of central inverters in the country and the biggest single plant to use ABB central inverters will be now approx 60 MW and is run by one of the key EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractors in India, as per the company statement.
The ABB central inverter series, rated from 100 to 630 kW, is designed for multi-megawatt PV power plants as well as large PV installations on commercial and industrial buildings.
