Analog Devices (ADI) has recently announced the completion of Empower Semiconductor’s acquisition. The agenda of this acquisition is to meet the growing demands of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
The acquisition enhances the capabilities of Analog Devices as a system-level power solutions provider across the AI ecosystem. It is enhancing its position in AI compute power delivery while increasing its total addressable market.
Empower Semiconductor is known for its integrated voltage regulator (IVR) technology, which enables more efficient and compact power delivery for high-performance processors. The technology is expected to help address the increasing power and thermal challenges associated with next-generation AI computing systems.
“Today marks an exciting milestone as we welcome the Empower team to ADI and take an important step forward in solving one of the most complex challenges in modern electronics – power delivery for the AI era,” said Vincent Roche, CEO and Chair of Analog Devices.
He added that AI infrastructure is fundamentally changing how power must be delivered, with energy emerging as one of the biggest constraints to scaling next-generation systems. According to Roche, Empower’s power delivery technology is designed to improve efficiency and performance for AI processors, while ADI’s global scale will help customers redesign power architectures to achieve higher compute densities required by future AI workloads.
Not only AI data centres, their combined technologies will also create support applications where efficient power delivery is critical, including high-performance computing and other energy-constrained electronic systems. This acquisition is a part of ADI plans to expand its intelligent edge and power management portfolio.
