The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) has launched two electric cars for official purpose. Supplied by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) on a monthly rental basis, these cars have a service warranty period of 6 years and a battery warranty.

H Y Dora, Chairman and Managing Director, APEPDCL, said that the electric cars run on clean energy source and saves a huge amount of money.

Electric charging stations

The power distribution entity has dispatched around 20 DC electric charging stations to Visakhapatnam. Out of these, 12 units have been completed and successfully installed by Exicom Tele systems, a Delhi-based company. The second phase of setting up 8 more stations will start soon, informed the Chairman to The Hans.

EESL has additionally installed 15 Amps AC charging points at the state-run power distribution company’s corporate, circle and collector’s offices. The vehicles can be charged in 6 hours in these charging points and the cost for one unit is Rs  6.95 Paise.

E-vision of Andhra

The state government of Andhra Pradesh has planned to introduce around 300 electric vehicles across its cities. M Kamalkar Babu, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), earlier said that the plan was to supply e-vehicles to Amaravati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirumala, APEPDCL and APSPDCL. He also added that the state government had sent indent for 100 electric vehicles in the first phase and EESL would supply 30 vehicles initially.

Andhra aims to increase the number of EVs based on demands from the government departments. The state wants to contribute to the country’s e-mobility vision by emerging as one of the hubs of electric vehicles
