According to the state government, the new ‘Centre of Excellence’ aims to collaborate with local universities and industry partners, enhance Tamil Nadu’s semiconductor ecosystem, and develop a skilled workforce for the chip industry.

The government also mentioned that Applied Materials intends to expand its technical staff in the state to over 500 positions in the coming years.

Commenting on the consensus, MK Stalin stated ,“Investment in key sectors such as advanced electronics and semiconductors will help us achieve the $1 trillion economy goal by 2030. We want to make Tamil Nadu the most advanced knowledge and innovation hub in South Asia.”

State Industries Minister Dr TRB Rajaa stated that Tamil Nadu aims to bolster its semiconductor landscape by fostering partnerships, promoting a research-driven culture, and developing a proficient team in the industry.

He expressed confidence that the collaboration with Applied Materials would be instrumental in achieving this ambition.
