Ather Unveils The 450 Apex Priced At Rs 1.89 Lakh

The 450 Apex is accompanied by a battery warranty of 5 years or 60,000 kilometres and includes free Ather Connect for three years.

Following an anticipation-filled period marked by numerous teasers, Ather has at last unveiled the 450 Apex, priced at Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom). This model represents the zenith of the current platform’s capabilities, pushing the boundaries within the safe limits of thermodynamics.

The 450 Apex is equipped with the same 3.7kWh battery as the 450X, but its claimed Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) range has increased to 157km, thanks to an innovative regenerative braking system. A unique feature of the 450 Apex is the ‘Magic Twist’ – a mechanism allowing riders to decelerate by twisting the accelerator 15 degrees backward, thus reducing the need to use the brakes.

In terms of power, the 450 Apex’s motor boasts a peak output of 7kW, setting it apart as the only model in Ather’s range with Warp+ mode. This mode enables impressive acceleration, with the company asserting a 0-40kph time of just 2.9 seconds and faster 40-80kph acceleration compared to the 450X. Additionally, the 450 Apex stands out as the sole Ather electric vehicle capable of reaching a claimed top speed of 100kph in Warp+ mode.

Structurally, the 450 Apex maintains the same seat height, wheelbase, tire dimensions, and ground clearance as the 450X. However, it introduces a new enclosed belt drive system, a feature soon to be standard across all Ather models, though it cannot be retrofitted to existing ones.

Aesthetically, while retaining the general design of its predecessors, the 450 Apex sports a unique Indium blue colour for its body panels, with the rear panel being transparent to showcase the chassis, strikingly finished in bright orange.

Priced at Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom, xx), the Ather 450 Apex is Rs 21,000 more expensive than the top-tier 450X with the 3.7kWh battery and Pro pack. This positions it as a premium offering, but as co-founder Tarun Mehta explains, the 450 Apex is less about commercial viability and more a labour of love. Production will be demand-driven, with plans to continue manufacturing the Apex until October 2024. Bookings are now open, with deliveries of this flagship Ather model expected to start in March 2024.
