Atlassian Corporation (NASDAQ: TEAM), known for its software tools for team collaboration and productivity such as Jira Software, Confluence, and Jira Service Management, has announced the hiring of Shamik Sharma as Head of Engineering, Commerce, and Enterprise Agility. Sharma will report to the company’s CTO, Rajeev Rajan in his new role.
Sharma brings to Atlassian an extensive background in technology and engineering, spanning nearly three decades. His experience includes a significant tenure as a co-founder at Cure.fit/Cult.sport, and roles as CTO and CPO at Myntra, part of the Flipkart group. His career has also included senior leadership positions at Lytro Inc., RockYou, StumbleUpon, Yahoo!, Confluent Software, and HP. Sharma has a history of scaling organizations and processes, and developing innovative products across various sectors including e-commerce, digital advertising, gaming, digital media, social networks, enterprise software, and consumer electronics. He holds an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
Rajeev Rajan, CTO of Atlassian, commented on Sharma’s appointment, highlighting the significant value Sharma’s expertise in technology and e-commerce is expected to bring to the company. Rajan emphasized Atlassian’s goal to become a century-old company and noted the importance of the work being done in India towards this goal. He expressed confidence in Sharma’s ability to accelerate the development of a world-class engineering team in India, which is Atlassian’s fastest-growing R&D site globally.
Sharma expressed his enthusiasm for joining Atlassian, noting his passion for product development and technical expertise. He is eager to utilize the engineering talent at Atlassian to develop new products that improve workplace collaboration. This appointment follows Atlassian’s recent addition of Paranth Thiruvengadam as India Site Leader and Head of Engineering IT Service Management. Atlassian has received recognition for its workplace environment, ranking #8 in the top 25 Best Workplaces in India by the Great Place to Work Institute and being listed among India’s top 50 Best Workplaces for Women 2023 in the Large Organisations category for the third consecutive year.
