Audi and Huawei Team Up to Announce their Joint Innovation in L4 Automatic Driving

Huawei partners with global premium car maker Audi to get a foothold in the industry of autonomous driving vehicle by using ICT technologies

On October 11 at Huawei Connect 2018, Audi partners with Huawei to announce their future plans of a cooperation in the field of intelligent connected vehicles (ICV), by launching the new Audi Q7 as a demonstration of this state-of-the-art-technology.

The plan of jointly developing intelligent connected vehicles between Audi and Huawei was changed into a strategic cooperation in Berlin, on July 10, 2018, by signing memorandum of understanding. At HUAWEI CONNECT 2018, the collaboration further came into progress between the two parties.

In order to provide automatic driving environment, Huawei;s Mobile Data Center (MDC) is integrated into the Audi Q7. The first preliminary version of the vehicle was displayed in the public during HUAWEI CONNECT 2018 exhibition.

This time, HUAWEI CONNECT conference main agenda was to help all the organisations and businesses to connect with the intelligent world, and to make this accomplish, the best minds of the industry – including all the global ICT leaders, industry experts and ecosystem partners will be contributing to discover new opportunities.

Executive Vice President of Audi China R&D Saad Metz commented on the German automobile manufacturer’s plans that “we evaluate a joint development of highly automated driving functions and future oriented vehicle-2-infrastructure communications. Audi proved in many events over the world to be one of the technology leaders in the area of highly automated drive. We are looking forward to intensify the partnership with Huawei in the future, because we are convinced that a closer cooperation between our two companies will bring substantial benefits for both sides.”

William Xu, Director of the Board and Chief Strategy Marketing Officer of Huawei, agreed. “As cars get smarter, we take advantage of our leading ICT technologies with Audi – one of the world’s most successful premium car brands – to lead automatic driving into the fast lane. Very soon, consumers will enjoy more secure, comfortable, convenient, and intelligent self-driving services.”

HUAWEI CONNECT 2018 – “Activate Intelligence” – was held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center and Expo Center from October 10th to 12th.
