Daedalean, a self-flying aviation vehicles startup recently announced the opening of its office in Phoenix, Arizona. It is the first American branch of this Swiss business. As Arizona witnesses clear and sunny skies for most of the duration, the company chose this destination to test its autonomous planes.
The President of Daedalean’s U.S. branch, Yemaya Bordain believes that they have an opportunity to transform the aviation and transportation industries. She says, “Daedalean is leading the charge in creating a world where we skip over traffic jams in autonomous and situationally aware aircraft.” Work is also on to introduce the company’s first commercial product, PilotEye. Florida-headquartered Avidyne partnered with Daedalean to bring this out and “enhance awareness with AI in the cockpit.”
The co-founder Anna Chernova added, “As far as we know, this will be the world’s first certified system for civil aviation with a non-trivial safety case that has a machine-learned component for AI assistance to a human pilot.” She concluded, “It can see and interpret the visual scene beyond human vision and capability.”
Daedalean produces software and systems laced with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate their aircraft. Currently working on its products to get aligned with the safety standards of the U.S. and Europe, the startup hopes to go live with its autonomous software by the end of 2022.
