BDL to set up 5-MW solar photovoltaic unit in Telangana

BDL, the public sector company, will set up a 5-MW solar photovoltaic power project at it Bhanur missile production unit in Telangana.

The Union Minister for Defence and Finance, Arun Jaitley, had formally launched the Rs 29-crore plant on Sunday. It will have a payback period of 4.3 years on the capital cost.

BDL, the country’s main missile production major, plans to develop the plant at Bhanur, where it will be manufacturing the Astra weapon system. The implementation of the grid connected solar power project is being done under phase ll/lll of the Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission (JNNSM).

The feasibility study was done by Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd, a Government of India Enterprise.

According to BDL, this project will chip into the National Power Grid and will generate 8.545 million units of power per year.

Solar power evacuation will be through 33/11 KV DISCOM station located at Nandigama Village which is around 6 km from the site.
