Edge AI heads into the oilfields as Blue Cloud partners with US-based Byte Eclipse to build rugged chips for safer, smarter and autonomous industrial operations.
Hyderabad-based Blue Cloud Softech Solutions has entered into a $15 million partnership with US-based Internet of Things (IoT) specialist Byte Eclipse to develop Edge AI chips specifically for the oil and gas (O&G) industry.
The company sees this as what it considers to be a reflection of its plans to expand deeper into industrial artificial intelligence and automation markets.
The companies will jointly create hardware capable of processing real-time data directly at remote operational sites, supporting functions such as predictive maintenance. This would allow operators to detect faults earlier, reduce downtime, and avoid major equipment failures in hazardous and isolated environments.
The first phase of the development programme is expected to take 18 months to complete. Blue Cloud indicated that future phases will aim at scaling up production and expanding deployment internationally.
The new chip architecture will target a range of industrial conditions common in exploration and pipeline management. It will be engineered to handle high vibration, extreme temperatures, and limited network access. By analysing vibration, pressure, and temperature inputs instantly on-site, the chips will reduce reliance on cloud connectivity. This localised approach is projected to reduce data transmission costs and improve security by keeping sensitive operational data on-site.
Power efficiency will also be a key design feature to ensure the technology can be deployed at remote and offshore facilities where resources are limited.
Blue Cloud chairman Janaki Yarlagadda described the collaboration as a major advancement for the company’s industrial technology strategy. She said the initiative would support cost-effective, sustainable and autonomous operations in one of the world’s most demanding industrial sectors.
The company believes the partnership positions it well to capitalise on the rapidly expanding Industrial AIoT market in India, forecast to exceed $1 billion by 2027.
Founded in 1991, Blue Cloud Softech Solutions specialises in AI-enabled enterprise products, while Byte Eclipse focuses on intelligent hardware and data analytics solutions.
