Bosch sets up automotive manufacturing plant in Chennai

Friday, May 18, 2013: Bosch, Germany-based auto-parts maker and engineering firm has built a new automotive parts manufacturing plant at Oragadam, Chennai. The total investment of setting up this unit is being stated as Rs 350 million ($6.39 million).

The manufacturing plant is spread on a 9000sqm area which is a part of the 40,000sqm space to replace the previously rented facility in order to address the increasing demands, ABR reported.

Commenting on the opening of the manufacturing plant, Steffen Berns, Bosch Group India president reportedly said, “The company has expanded its presence beyond its existing automotive component manufacturing sites in Bangalore, Nashik, Chakan and Jaipur with the Chennai plant.” “From the new plant, we will support all Indian automotive customers with our innovative products from electrical drives,” he added.

The new facility will undertake processes like designing, development and testing along with the production of actuation, thermal and wiper systems for the Indian automotive market.

For those who don’t already know, Bosch manufactures components including window lift drives, wiper linkages, engine cooling modules, blower modules, arms and blades for car makers including Hyundai, Ford, General Motors, Mahindra, Renault, Nissan and Volkswagen in India.
