Monday, July 15, 2013: Dr Amar G Bose, founder of Bose Corp and acoustics pioneer, passed away on Friday. The man, who will always be remembered for his eminent contribution in the world of electronics, died at the age of 83. Apart from heading the high-end audio equipment company, he was also a professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He was born and brought up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He did his bachelor’s degree as well as his master’s degree in electrical engineering from MIT. He also received a doctorate from the prestigious institute. After that, he joined MIT’s faculty in 1956 and taught physical and psycho-acoustics at MIT till two years back.
He founded Bose Corporation in 1964, while he was teaching at MIT. He was also known for his patents in the filed of acoustics, electronics, nonlinear systems and communication theory. Most of these patents are used by Bose Corp. in its products.
Commenting on the loss, Bob Maresca, president of Bose Corporation said in a statement, “Dr. Bose founded Bose Corporation almost 50 years ago with a set of guiding principles centered on research and innovation. That focus has never changed, and never will. Bose Corporation will remain privately held, and stay true to Dr. Bose’s ideals. We are as committed to this as he was to us. Today and every day going forward, our hearts are with Dr. Bose; and we will do everything we can to make him proud of the company he built.”
