In a bold leap toward ultra-secure skies, C-DOT and Synergy Quantum India join forces to pioneer quantum-encrypted drone communication for national and global impact.
The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has partnered with Synergy Quantum India to co-develop a cutting-edge communication system that brings quantum security to drone technology.
The two organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly build quantum key distribution (QKD) systems suitable for drone-based platforms. These systems, rooted in advanced quantum encryption protocols, are intended to safeguard sensitive communications, especially in high-risk environments like defence and emergency response.
According to the Ministry of Communications, this is a major move to strengthen India’s digital security and innovation landscape. It further stated that the agreement reflects a shared goal to scale indigenous research while aligning with national priorities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.
Drone-based QKD, still an emerging field globally, offers unique advantages in creating mobile, flexible, and ultra-secure communication links — particularly in remote or sensitive operational zones.
Under the collaboration, both parties will co-develop deployable solutions, contribute to global and domestic research efforts, and share results through academic publications and public forums.
The scope of work will also extend to organising expert sessions, workshops, and conferences to raise awareness and technical understanding of quantum-secure technologies.
“By combining our research depth with industry agility, we aim to jointly develop solutions that not only address national priorities but also contribute to India’s emergence as a global player in quantum innovation,” noted Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO, C-DOT.
Jay Oberoi, Founder & CEO of Synergy Quantum India, remarked, “This partnership has the potential to position India as a global leader in drone-based quantum secure communications.”
The agreement was formalised at an event attended by top officials from both organisations.
