CCCME Raises Alarm Over EU Restrictions on Electronics Trade

The China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME) has warned that EU trade restrictions could disrupt deeply integrated electronics supply chains, investments, and technology cooperation between China and the EU.

The China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME) has warned that recent trade restrictions by European Union institutions and member states could undermine China–EU electronics cooperation and the stability of industrial and supply chains. The chamber described the measures as showing a “clear protectionist tendency”.

CCCME said China and the EU have highly complementary economies, with their machinery and electronics sectors connected through trade in goods, two-way investment, localised operations, joint technology R&D, and upstream and downstream collaboration. It said these activities have created “deeply interconnected industrial chains, closely intertwined interests and mutual dependence”.

The chamber said this cross-border industrial ecosystem, developed through market forces and independent business decisions, has created jobs and development opportunities on both sides and should be valued and safeguarded.

The warning comes amid reports that France and Germany are drafting a joint document urging the European Commission to strengthen trade and economic-security tools.

CCCME called for China–EU differences to be addressed through government-to-government consultations and industry dialogue. It urged the EU to consider industry views, avoid what it called negative legislation and policies, and maintain a fair and predictable bilateral economic and trade environment.

The chamber also expressed support for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s opposition to trade protectionist practices. It said it would monitor developments and assist Chinese machinery and electronics companies in addressing external risks and challenges.
