Wednesday, July 09, 2014: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has braced itself to pump in Rs 10,000 Million aimed at energy conservation and efficiency measures in Andhra Pradesh.
“A three-member team from EESL has assured an investment of around Rs 10,000-Million in excess of a period for 2-3 years as part of the energy conservation activities initiated by the government of Andhra Pradesh,” according to a state government release.
EESL is jointly patronised by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, followed by NTPC, REC and PFC with equal equity participation meant for the implementation of energy efficiency projects in India as well as abroad. As part of the mission, EESL has proposed to substitute the existing street lighting systems with that of energy efficient LED street lighting in all of the 111 municipalities/corporations in the state throughout the project’s full period.
In Phase-I, it would take up the programme in 24 municipalities together with Guntur, Kakinada, Nellore, Anantapur, Tirupati and Kurnool. This would lead towards energy cost savings of Rs 28.56-million annually. Resources thrust towards promoting efficient lighting in homes, EESL is interested on supplying high-quality LED lights at a subsidised Rs 10, as against a market price of Rs 400. The modalities for the execution of this project are presently being worked out.
Besides, the press release stated, EESL has apprised the chief minister of retrofitting the agricultural pumpsets with energy efficient units in a phased manner to be able to ensure a minimum of 30 per cent energy saving in the farm sector. It has agreed to a pilot project for retrofitting 25,000 agricultural pumpsets in 13 mandals, where the segregation of agri feeders has been completed.
