Energy department sets target for producing 25,000 MW solar power

Monday, August 26, 2013: The Energy Department of India that is busy promoting its solar power policy has set a goal of producing 25,000 MW of solar electricity. According to Energy Department officials, “Germany is producing 25,000 MW solar power which is very much possible in Andhra Pradesh too,” The New Indian Express reported.

The media was informed about the solar power policy and the two day exhibition-cum-awareness campaign on roof-top solar energy production by dignitaries such as Special Chief Secretary (energy) M Sahoo, AP Transco chairman and managing director, Suresh Chanda, NREDCAP MD Kamalakar Babu and other officials.

On the installation of roof-top solar panels, domestic power consumers would receive up to 50 per cent subsidy on the equipment and in case they supply solar energy to power grid, they would receive `2.69 per unit. The money for this will get transferred in the bank accounts of consumers twice in one year that is in the month of June and December. In case consumption of energy by the consumers exceeded power supply to the grid, then they will have to pay the power bill per month.

“Consumers can also install battery to store the power generated by them for usage during nights in case of severe power cuts,” the officials informed, The New Indian Express reported.
