Global Semiconductor Equipment Market to Reach $344 Billion by 2032 

The semiconductor equipment market is forecast to grow at 11% CAGR through 2032, as chipmakers expand capacity for advanced nodes and next-generation packaging. 

Global semiconductor manufacturing equipment shipments are set for strong growth, with the market projected to reach $344.36 billion by 2032, driven by advanced-node chips and rising investments in semiconductor fabs.

The global semiconductor manufacturing equipment market is entering a strong growth phase as chipmakers increase investments in advanced manufacturing technologies to meet rising demand for AI, high-performance computing, 5G, automotive and medical electronics.

The market is projected to grow from $166.35 billion in 2025 to $344.36 billion by 2032, registering a CAGR of 11 per cent, according to MarketsandMarkets.

The transition to smaller process nodes, including 5nm, 3nm and the upcoming 2nm nodes, is driving demand for increasingly sophisticated lithography, deposition, etching and metrology equipment. Chipmakers are increasing capital expenditure as advanced processes require tighter process control and more complex manufacturing steps.

Advanced nodes drive equipment investments

The move towards advanced semiconductor architectures is increasing demand for next-generation manufacturing equipment. Newer nodes require complex thin-film structures, multiple material layers and tighter manufacturing tolerances.

This is creating opportunities across lithography, wafer surface conditioning, wafer cleaning, deposition, metrology, bonding and wafer testing equipment.

AI and high-performance computing are emerging as major demand drivers as semiconductor manufacturers expand capacity for high-performance processors, accelerators and memory technologies.

Deposition equipment leads front-end growth

Deposition equipment is expected to record the highest CAGR among front-end semiconductor manufacturing equipment during the forecast period.

The growth is being driven by the increasing complexity of advanced-node chips and emerging transistor architectures. Physical vapour deposition (PVD), chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD) technologies are becoming increasingly important for manufacturing advanced devices.

ALD is particularly important for structures requiring highly precise and uniform thin films, including gate-all-around (GAA) transistors and 3D NAND.

The growth of 3D architectures, chiplets and heterogeneous integration is also expanding the need for advanced deposition technologies.

Advanced packaging boosts back-end equipment

Packaging equipment is projected to register the highest CAGR in the back-end semiconductor manufacturing equipment market between 2025 and 2032.

The increasing adoption of 2.5D and 3D packaging, chiplets, heterogeneous integration, fan-out wafer-level packaging and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) is driving investments in advanced packaging equipment.

These technologies require greater precision in die bonding, bumping, underfill, thermal management and wafer-level packaging. Growing adoption of advanced packaging in AI, HPC, automotive and 5G applications is further supporting demand.

Americas to see fastest equipment market growth

The Americas are expected to record the highest CAGR in the global semiconductor manufacturing equipment market between 2025 and 2032, led by the US.

Government incentives, new fab projects and efforts to strengthen domestic semiconductor supply chains are driving equipment investments across the region.

Major semiconductor companies, including Intel, TSMC, Samsung, Micron and GlobalFoundries, are expanding or modernising manufacturing capacity in the US. Investments are also increasing across advanced logic, memory, AI accelerators and advanced packaging.

Semiconductor equipment market outlook

The semiconductor equipment market is expected to remain closely linked to the expansion of advanced-node manufacturing and next-generation packaging.

As chipmakers move towards smaller geometries and more complex architectures, equipment demand is expected to rise across both front-end and back-end manufacturing.

Applied Materials, ASML, Lam Research, Tokyo Electron and KLA are among the key players in the global semiconductor manufacturing equipment market.
