GM, Magna, And Wipro Collaborate On Automotive B2B Software Platform

SDVerse aims to connect buyers and sellers of embedded automotive software, prioritizing matchmaking over captive development. This digital platform enhances transparency and efficiency in software development and procurement.

General Motors, Magna, and Wipro Limited have collaborated to create a B2B sales platform named SDVerse for the automotive industry. This platform aims to transform how automotive software is bought and sold by providing a digital marketplace for embedded automotive software.

SDVerse is designed to facilitate a more transparent and efficient connection between buyers and sellers of automotive software. It allows sellers to showcase their software’s features and buyers to browse and find software products easily through a detailed catalogue. The platform enables direct transactions, ensuring a smooth experience for all users. Currently under development, SDVerse is expected to host a wide range of automotive software products and is open to participants from all automotive industry segments. An exclusive group of ‘Launch Partner’ companies is already involved, including Renault Group’s Ampere, FEV, Forvia, HL Mando, NXP Semiconductors, TTTech Auto, and Valeo.

Prashant Gulati has been appointed as the CEO of SDVerse, bringing over twenty years of experience in the automotive industry and expertise in software technology and AI.

Harmeet Chauhan, Global Head of Wipro Engineering Edge at Wipro Limited, highlighted the growing market for automotive software and the challenges in sourcing software due to a talent gap. SDVerse addresses these challenges by offering a range of benefits across the industry.

Dan Nicholson, Vice President of Strategic Technology Initiatives at General Motors, emphasized the transformation in automotive-grade software development and the need for a platform like SDVerse to provide unique features faster, improve quality, and reduce costs.

SDVerse offers several benefits to its subscribers, including reduced costs, time, and complexity; higher quality software; improved resource allocation; enhanced revenue opportunities for sellers; and a new approach to software sourcing that separates it from hardware.

Joerg Grotendorst, Senior Vice President of Corporate R&D at Magna, stated that Magna’s involvement in SDVerse reflects its commitment to driving collaboration and innovation in the automotive industry. The platform aims to create a more interconnected ecosystem that encourages collaboration and co-creation among OEMs, suppliers, and software developers.

SDVerse was jointly designed and developed by GM, Magna, and Wipro, with governance shared among the founding members. Roland Berger, a global strategy consultant, has been advising the project since its inception. Konstantin Shirokinskiy, Partner at Roland Berger, noted that SDVerse provides a blueprint for OEMs and suppliers to address their embedded software needs more efficiently, freeing up software engineering resources and streamlining operations.
