Monday, December 15, 2014: Looking at the rate of power consumption in the state, Haryana government has decided to deploy solar and other alternative sources for power generation. The government has released the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (Rooftop Solar Grid Interactive System based on Net Metering) Regulations, 2014 and have recommended the use of grid interactive rooftop Solar Photovoltaic systems for energy generation.
Jagjeet Singh, HERC chairman said that the state has witnessing an extensive growth in its electricity demand and also said it is becoming tough for discoms to meet the rising demand. Different industries and commercial set ups developed in the state including malls, hotels, hospitals, nursing homes and housing complexes, make an extensive use of diesel generators of various capacities ranging from a few kilowatt to couple of megawatt for generating back-up power, even during the day time. Thus considering the prevailing situation, the use of grid interactive rooftop solar PV systems can be counted as to be a feasible solution.
Singh stated that the commission has decided to use Rooftop Solar Grid Interactive System based on Net Metering Regulations to meet the rising power requirements. The action would also perhaps help the distribution companies to fulfil their solar renewable purchase obligations.
He even stated that the all prevailing consumers of electricity can opt for installation of rooftop solar power system to meet part or all of their energy requirements on first-come-first-served basis, till the initial target of 200 MW for installation of rooftop solar power system is met. Singh added that the maximum rooftop solar system capacity which is required to be installed at any consumer premises should not exceed contracted load, with maximum limit of 1MW.
