Indian IT giant opens development centres in Bengaluru and Hubli to support Japan’s push for next-generation logic chip manufacturing.
HCLTech and Japan’s Rapidus Corporation have entered into a strategic partnership to establish specialized semiconductor engineering development centres in India. The joint initiative is designed to support Rapidus’ ambitions to manufacture next-generation, advanced logic semiconductors in Japan.
Under the agreement, HCLTech has inaugurated two dedicated development hubs in Bengaluru and Hubli. Leveraging its global engineering expertise, HCLTech will provide Rapidus with a comprehensive suite of semiconductor capabilities, spanning mask design, design infrastructure, process design kit (PDK) development, design technology co-optimisation (DTCO), and physical layout design.
A core pillar of the collaboration focuses on developing a sustainable pipeline of high-calibre Indian engineering talent to meet Rapidus’ long-term technical workforce requirements in Japan.
Atsuyoshi Koike, Representative Director and CEO of Rapidus Corporation, stated that establishing a robust engineering ecosystem is critical for building next-generation semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in Japan. He highlighted that the partnership offers direct access to India’s expanding pool of specialized semiconductor talent.
C Vijayakumar, CEO and Managing Director of HCLTech, emphasized that advanced semiconductors will underpin key technological breakthroughs over the coming decade, describing the venture as a reflection of deepening strategic collaboration between Japan and India.
The partnership aims to accelerate chip adoption, shorten product time-to-market, and establish a strong foundation for future semiconductor innovation.
