Huawei in talks with Indian government for smart city solutions

Chinese telecom maker Huawei turns bullish on India, calling it as the most strategic market for growth. Derek Hao, president, enterprise business group, Huawei India, said ET that the group will be expanding its enterprise products and working on other areas like IoT, big data, cloud at its Indian R&D centre in Bengaluru.

Huawei has the largest offshore research & development unit in Bengaluru; which employs 3,000 personnel of about 8,000 total employees in India. The company’s global service centre another 1,000 staffers – and it supports its domestic and international telecom carrier customers in 30-plus markets across EMEA.

Huawei also has two factories in Chennai, which will primarily focus on production of midrange smartphones like the Honor series. The company is actively looking to expand their distribution solution for enterprise products with dealers and channel partners like with Redington India.

Huawei is currently in talks with the Indian government officials from the Government of India. Huawei has also helped Kenya build a digital health system, which won an award at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. With the government’s recent push towards Digital india and Smart City projects, Huawei believes that they can contribute to a large extent.

Huawei has partnered with Indian IT major Infosys for hosting their banking product Finacle on Huawei’s FusionCloud based cloud platform. Huawei has six of the top 10 global banks with them – in total the company has more than 300 financial institutions.
