IIT Hyderabad and Japan’s Mie University have signed MoUs to strengthen academic exchanges, joint research, and talent development in semiconductors and digital technologies.
The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) and Japan’s Mie University have partnered to expand academic collaboration and research, with a particular focus on semiconductors and digital technologies.
The MoUs were signed at IIT Hyderabad on September 15, establishing a framework for academic cooperation, faculty exchanges, student mobility, and joint research, according to a release from IIT Hyderabad.
Under the Agreement on Academic Cooperation and Exchange, the institutions will facilitate faculty and staff exchanges, student exchanges, sharing of academic information, joint research projects, lectures, and symposia. The agreement also allows both institutions to undertake other mutually agreed academic activities.
A separate Student Exchange MoU provides for students to participate in exchange programmes at either institution for one to two consecutive academic semesters, subject to mutually agreed conditions.
The collaboration aims to support the growth of the semiconductor ecosystem in India and Japan by strengthening academic engagement and developing skilled talent for the sector.
Mie University has a dedicated Semiconductor Division under its Centre for Semiconductor and Digital Future Creation. Mie Prefecture is also an established semiconductor industry hub, providing opportunities for collaboration between academic institutions and industry stakeholders.
The partnership could facilitate stronger engagement with semiconductor companies and organisations in Mie Prefecture, including the Mie Semiconductor Network. It is also expected to create opportunities for students and researchers to work across local and global technology ecosystems.
Prof Hideto Miyake, Professor and Assistant to the President of Mie University and Head of its Semiconductor Division, said the partnership would expand student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and academic activities, particularly in semiconductors.
He added that the collaboration could create new opportunities for students and young researchers from both institutions while strengthening their connections with the semiconductor industry.
IIT Hyderabad Director Prof B S Murty said the MoUs provide a framework for students, faculty members, and researchers from both institutions to engage through academic exchanges, joint research, and other collaborative activities.
He added that the partnership could help align academic capabilities with industry requirements as semiconductors and digital technologies gain importance globally.
