India, France Reaffirm Commitment to Open and Ethical AI

Macron and Modi highlighted responsible AI development and stronger technology cooperation at Bharat Innovates 2026.

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for the development of reliable, open and ethical artificial intelligence (AI), while warning against efforts to monopolise advanced AI technologies and restrict international cooperation.

Speaking at the launch of Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice on June 14, Macron said India and France share a common vision for AI that is trustworthy, responsible and beneficial to society. He warned against the growing tendency to turn AI into a tool of power and limit collaboration among countries.

“Our two countries have the shared ambition of a reliable, open and safe AI that could be trusted, could be responsible, and that could be ethical,” Macron said.

According to an Economic Times report, Macron said India and France support multilingualism, cooperative AI and open models for the greater good. He also highlighted growing research collaborations and industrial partnerships between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Macron jointly inaugurated Bharat Innovates 2026, a three-day innovation conclave that brings together startups, innovators, investors and technology leaders from India, France and other countries.

The event features 120 deep-tech startups and more than 20 institutes of excellence across 13 critical technology sectors. More than 350 investors and venture capitalists are also participating in the conclave.

Modi highlighted the growing India-France partnership in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, clean energy and space technologies. He described Bharat Innovates 2026 as another milestone in the two countries’ efforts to promote innovation and address global challenges through technology.
