Tuesday, October 28, 2014: Kanpur government buildings, including Kanpur Collectorate, Kesco and Vikas Bhawan, will get solar power panels soon in order to meet power requirements. All the districts in U.P. have been directed by the state government to opt for solar power as power crisis is looming large on the state.
The district magistrate of Kanpur took the decision to install a solar power plant at the collectorate building and as a part of the plan, roof top photo voltaic (PV) cells will be installed in the office. Kesco and Vikas Bhawan are also due to get solar power panels soon. After the successful completion of these projects, other government offices and multi-storied buildings will also be asked to set up solar panels, as per the DM plans.
The ongoing National Solar Mission has set a target to install 20,000MW solar energy by 2020 and its first phase target has already been achieved. The government is keen to meet the power requirements across the country and for the same they had entered power purchase agreements with around 28 developers. Solar power projects are on the top priority list in several states and guidelines for bidding of solar photo voltaic power projects have also been recently revised by the central government. The revised target says the government will add 15GW more by 2019 Quarter 1.
