Monday, March 03, 2014: The government of Karnataka is now on its way to encourage people to take up rooftop solar energy productions, as it plans to have a stable policy to promote and control the solar energy project.
According to a Hindu Business Line report, DK Shivkumar, Karnataka Power Minister said that the government will further the people to take up roof-top solar energy production, under this policy.
To further encourage the use of solar power panels for electricity in the state, many incentives will be listed in the policy; like in case of excess power generation, the people can re-route the spare power from the roof-top solar power systems and divert it to the state grid via trade sell.
The policy will include these systems, which will feed power back to the grid, be sanctioned with a good price for the power they sell. The government will also ask new building owners to have provisions for installing and producing solar energy on their rooftops. The proposed policy is likely to be placed before the Cabinet in near future.
Shivkumar added that the government will set-up the chief electrical inspectorate in Mangalore, which will cater to the requirements of four districts in the region. With this, the consumers will not have to go to Bangalore to get electrical clearance for major commercial establishments, apartments and other major buildings.
Besides, the state has asked all the electricity supply companies in Karnataka, to supply a minimum of seven hours of three-phase electricity to farmers in rural areas.
To establish a new demand-supply chain for power in the southern state, the government will further sign an agreement with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) on 4 March. The agreement will let Karnataka to buy 400 MW of power from the corporation.
