Lufthansa Group to Equip 850 Aircraft With Starlink High-Speed Wi-Fi

The Wi-Fi service will operate through a dedicated Lufthansa Group portal

Lufthansa Group is set to introduce high-speed in-flight internet powered by Starlink across its fleet, with a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo becoming the first aircraft to offer the service to passengers.

The satellite-based connectivity service, developed in collaboration with Starlink, will deliver internet speeds designed to support video streaming, cloud-based work, web browsing, and other bandwidth-intensive applications during flights. In some cases, the connection is expected to be faster than passengers’ internet services at home or in the office.

Lufthansa Group plans to equip around 850 aircraft across its airlines with the technology by 2029, making it the largest airline group in Europe to deploy Starlink connectivity across such a large fleet. The rollout is part of the group’s broader investment in new aircraft, digital services, and passenger experience.

Alongside Lufthansa, airlines including SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Eurowings are preparing to introduce the new connectivity service.

The new Wi-Fi service will be available across travel classes and is intended to provide passengers with a consistent high-speed internet experience across Lufthansa Group airlines.

“High-speed internet [is] an integral part of the travel experience – across all travel classes and on all Lufthansa Group airlines,” said Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer, Lufthansa Group.

The Wi-Fi service will operate through a dedicated Lufthansa Group portal. Passengers will be required to agree to terms of use that include restrictions on certain activities. These include using headphones when playing audio or video content, refraining from voice and video calls, and not conducting live broadcasts from the aircraft.

The Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi portal is sponsored by Mastercard, which has also partnered with the airline group on its existing FlyNet connectivity service.
