The green number plate on EVs has numbers in white font for private vehicles and in yellow font for commercial vehicles and cabs
The Indian Government announced that electric vehicles (EVs) will be marked by green coloured number plates. The first batch of green number plates has been pushed out. Mahindra eVerito EV launched by Mahindra Electric is the first car to get the unique number plate.
Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways told that these number plates will encourage people to use EVs. Furthermore, vehicles running on alternative source of fuel include CNG, methanol, biofuel, and EVs.
Decide to abolish permits for Evs
The government decided to abolish all permits for EVs and those running on alternative fuels such as CNG, ethanol or biofuel. Now, all vehicles including cabs, buses and even auto rickshaws can run across India permit-free. The states have already been notified about the same. The green number plate on EVs has numbers in white font for private vehicles and in yellow font for commercial vehicles and cabs.
At the MOVE Global Mobility Summit, PM Modi told that the organisations like ISRO and other institutions can partner up to create cost-effective options for EVs in India. As ISRO uses one of the best battery systems to run satellites in space. He also mentioned that other institutions can partner with ISRO to develop cost-effective and efficient battery systems for electric cars.
Frequent changes in tax structure and emission norms have hindered the auto industry’s potential growth. Therefore, automakers have asked Modi government for a single long-term policy. PM Modi told that the government will soon put in place a stable policy around EVs that will be a win-win for all. He also mentioned that the policies will be designed as a win-win for all and will also enable huge opportunities in the automotive sector.
