As per a report by Reuters, Taiwan’s Mediatek said that it has applied to the U.S. government for permission to continue supplying China’s Huawei after new U.S. curbs start in mid-September in the middle of the growing China-U.S. tensions. The report added that the Trump administration has expanded its curbs on Huawei and banned suppliers from selling chips made using U.S. technology to the Chinese firm without a special licence
Follow related global trade regulations
The report said that MediaTek said that it will follow related global trade regulations and has applied for the permission to ship to Huawei after 15th September. It said in a brief statement that MediaTek reiterates its respect for following relevant orders and rules on global trade. It added that it has already applied for permission with the U.S. side in accordance with the rules. As per the report, Huawei declined to comment.
Recently, MediaTek announced advances in its collaboration with Intel to bring 5G experiences to next-generation PCs with the successful development and certification of its 5G modem data card. MediaTek’s T700 5G modem, which will be used to bring 5G connectivity to Intel-powered PCs, completed 5G standalone (SA) calls in real world test scenarios.
