Chipmaker MediaTek incorporates the NVIDIA Toolkit for IoT app development.
At COMPUTEX 2024, MediaTek revealed plans to merge NVIDIA Train Adopt Optimise (TAO) with its NeuroPilot Software Development Kit (SDK) to develop its edge inference silicon roadmap. NVIDIA TAO offers over 100 pre-trained models for customised vision AI solutions, simplifying tuning and reducing development time.
MediaTek’s NeuroPilot SDK will combine with NVIDIA TAO to advance Vision AI across all MediaTek devices, large and small. This will product launches, even for developers lacking deep AI knowledge.
The Taiwanese fabless semiconductor manufacturer stated that this integration aims to streamline development for developers bringing edge AI, including Generative AI, to various IoT applications using their silicon. It also focuses on enabling companies across industries to leverage edge AI in IoT sectors like retail, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and smart cities.
According to CK Wang, General Manager of the IoT business unit at MediaTek, “Integrating NVIDIA TAO with MediaTek NeuroPilot will further expand our vision of democratising access to AI, helping drive a new wave of AI-powered devices and experiences.”
He further mentioned that with the expanded resources and MediaTek’s Genio product line, it was now easier than ever for developers to create innovative Edge AI products that would distinguish themselves from competitors.
Deepu Talla, NVIDIA’s Vice President of Robotics and Edge Computing, stated that Generative AI was enhancing computer vision accuracy for IoT and edge applications. He is hopeful that the combination of NVIDIA TAO and MediaTek NeuroPilot SDK will bring the most advanced vision AI models to billions of IoT devices.
MediaTek assists in connecting more than two billion devices each year. Their edge silicon portfolio prioritises enhancing performance for edge AI applications to ensure effective operations. Furthermore, they possess multimedia and connectivity technologies. With chipsets serving premium, mid-range, and entry-level markets, MediaTek’s edge inference silicon roadmap aids in incorporating AI capabilities into devices across different price ranges.
