Monday, December 22, 2014: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is planning to set up several mega solar projects in the Andhra Pradesh. The corporation is showing interest in setting up 300MW solar power plant, for which it has already approached the Guntur district administration.
It seeks allotment of 1,500 acres of land for the solar plant, which may cost around Rs. 20,000 million. This is notably one of the major steps taken by the power major in the state on solar front. NTPC also involves a thermal power project in Visakhapatnam. The AP Transco has proposed Rs 6.49 paise per unit of solar power to NTPC, whereas the later is demanding Rs. 7 per unit. After the land is allotted and the tariff is decided, NTPC will be all set to lay foundation stone by early 2015.
Apart from this, Guntur is also being considered by the Soft Bank of Japan for setting up another giant solar power project of 1000 MW. The project is likely to be set up in the district, once the land would be made available. Another proposal for setting up solar power plant in district is still under government’s consideration. Reports suggest that the government is planning to allocate 500 acres of the park, to allow small players to accommodate in it.
