Larsen & Toubro will lead the next phase of Micron’s semiconductor assembly and test plant in Gujarat, expanding India’s first advanced ATMP facility.
US memory chipmaker Micron Technology has appointed Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as the general contractor for the second phase of its semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand, Gujarat, according to people familiar with the development. The expansion is part of Micron’s $2.75 billion investment in India’s first advanced assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) facility.
The decision marks a shift from the first phase of the project, which was handled by Tata Projects. According to sources, delays during the initial construction phase led Micron to appoint a new contractor for the next stage of development.
L&T will oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities for Phase 2, which is expected to further expand Micron’s manufacturing capacity in India. The company had earlier invited bids from multiple infrastructure firms before finalizing the contract.
Micron’s Sanand facility is a key part of India’s semiconductor manufacturing ambitions under the India Semiconductor Mission. The plant converts DRAM and NAND wafers produced at Micron’s global fabs into finished memory and storage products. Commercial production at the first phase has already begun, with the facility expected to manufacture tens of millions of memory units in 2026 before scaling to hundreds of millions annually in 2027.
The project, announced in 2023, represents a combined investment of approximately $2.75 billion by Micron and its government partners. Once fully developed, the Sanand campus is expected to play a significant role in strengthening India’s semiconductor supply chain while supporting the country’s broader goal of becoming a global electronics manufacturing hub.
