Micron Signs Long-Term Memory Chip Supply Deal with Ford

Micron is expanding its U.S. manufacturing footprint to support rising demand for advanced memory chips in connected and software-defined vehicles.

Micron Technology has entered into a long-term agreement with Ford Motor to supply memory and storage solutions for the automaker’s next-generation vehicles, strengthening its presence in the automotive semiconductor market.

The partnership comes shortly after Micron signed a similar supply agreement with General Motors, reflecting the company’s broader strategy to expand its U.S.-based manufacturing capabilities for automotive customers. As part of this effort, Micron is increasing advanced DRAM production at its Virginia facility.

DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) plays a vital role in data-intensive applications, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and modern vehicle electronics. Demand for these chips has surged alongside growing investments in AI infrastructure, pushing DRAM prices significantly higher in recent months.

The automotive industry is also becoming a major consumer of advanced memory chips as vehicles adopt increasingly sophisticated driver-assistance systems, connected features, and high-performance infotainment platforms. These technologies require greater processing power and storage, making a stable chip supply a strategic priority for automakers.

“As vehicles become more intelligent and data-intensive, the importance of advanced memory and storage continues to grow, making collaboration and long-term supply increasingly important,” Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said.

The agreements with Ford and GM are part of the 16 long-term supply deals Micron highlighted during its third-quarter results, underscoring the company’s focus on securing long-term demand from automotive and industrial customers.
