The company wants to grow its employee strength at its Hyderabad’s facility to 2,000 over the next couple of years.
US-based semiconductor company Micron Technology is planning a four-fold increase in hiring for its research & development (R&D) operations in India to support its global manufacturing operations.
The company has R&D operations in Hyderabad and the facility also provides design support for various storage products, including DRAM and NAND.
Today, there are about 500 people at its Hyderabad’s facility and the company expect to grow this strength to 2,000 over the next couple of years.
“We will be expanding our engineering areas to have complete end-product development capabilities over time,” Manish Bhatia, Executive Vice-President, Global Operations, Micron told BusinessLine.
The plan is to make Indian operations a hub for IT development and some other capabilities to manage its global manufacturing operations. For this, Micron seeks to hire people from top institutions in India.
Micron expands operations in Singapore
The company recently launch its expanded NAND flash memory fabrication operations in Singapore. The latest expansion will allow the company to move its flash memory production to more advanced 3D NAND technology nodes.
Micron President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra also pointed out that just like Singapore, India has a strong pool of talent.
“As our market opportunities are growing, we need to tap the top talent pool in all major geographies,” he said.
Automotive is of the fastest-growing segments for the consumption of DRAM and NAND flash memories, according to Mehrotra.
