Midwest Energy Unveils Its New Gigawatt-Scale Manufacturing Facility

Midwest Energy plans to supply its BESS solutions to both domestic and international markets

Midwest Energy has recently announced the commercial production at its 1.2GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.

The facility has multiple features such as Cell-to-Container manufacturing capabilities. This feature allow the company to manufacture battery modules, battery trays, battery racks, and fully integrated containerised BESS solutions under one roof. The systems are designed for commercial, industrial, renewable energy, and utility-scale applications.

With an annual production capacity of 1.2GWh, the plant will manufacture energy storage solutions ranging from 3kWh to 6MWh across voltage levels of 48V to 1500V. The facility incorporates advanced quality assurance, traceability, and end-of-line testing systems, with products designed to comply with UL 1973, UL 9540, and UL 9540A standards. Midwest Energy will also offer customised energy storage solutions to address diverse customer requirements.

The commissioning comes as battery energy storage gains increasing importance in supporting renewable energy integration, grid stability, and reliable power supply. The company said the facility has been designed to enable scalable manufacturing while maintaining high product reliability and globally benchmarked quality standards.

Commenting on the development, Soumya K, Chief Executive Officer of Midwest Energy Limited, said India’s transition towards cleaner energy requires greater renewable integration, which also brings challenges such as grid instability and demand-supply mismatches. He noted that Battery Energy Storage Systems provide a reliable and rapidly deployable solution to address these challenges and added that the new facility strengthens the company’s indigenous capabilities to design, manufacture, and deploy advanced energy storage solutions developed and manufactured in India.

Midwest Energy plans to supply its BESS solutions to both domestic and international markets while expanding its portfolio of customised energy storage products.

Headquartered in Hyderabad, Midwest Business House was established in 1981 and operates across mineral exploration, mining, mineral processing, engineering, and advanced materials. Through Midwest Energy, the group is expanding its manufacturing footprint in Battery Energy Storage Systems, rare earth permanent magnets, and other critical materials that support electric mobility, renewable energy, grid infrastructure, and strategic industries.

Apart from this facility, the company has also set up a commercial-scale rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing facility in Hyderabad with an annual capacity of 500 tonnes and plans to expand it to 5,000 tonnes per annum.

Founder K. Raghava Reddy mentioned that the company’s investments align with its long-term objective of supporting the energy transition while contributing to cleaner air, water, food systems, and improved public health.
