Wednesday, September 17, 2014: Telecom and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has set out for Germany to encourage the electronic manufacturers to invest in India. After taking the ministerial charge it is the first official trip.
In tune with the Narendra Modi’s message to the foreign manufactures with a catchphrase, “Come, Make in India”, the government has planned to set up the first major electronic manufacturing cluster in Madhya Pradesh. After returning from Germany his next destinations would be US and South Korea.
He has planned a week long interaction with the electronics majors in Germany, where he is expected to encourage manufacturers to set up shops in India. He is been accompanied by many officials and industry heads. To get huge number of foreign majors in the electronics sector, the government plans to strengthen inverted duty structure loaded against manufacturers.
At present India imports $100 billion worth electronic items every year. It is expected to go up to $400 billion till 2020 if it went on going the same way. By setting the electronics hubs across the country, government determines to cater over 20 million employment opportunities.
