Murugappa Group’s EV brand unveils Montra Super Auto, an electric three-wheeler winner of the 2023 International Red Dot Design Award in the ‘Innovative Last Mile Mobility Electric Passenger Vehicle’ category.

Mantra Electric, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of the Tamil Nadu-based Murugappa Group, today marked a significant milestone with the launch of its new Super Auto in Tirunelveli, delivering the first ten units to customers. This launch highlights the group’s commitment to innovative and sustainable transportation solutions.

The newly introduced Montra Super Auto is a testament to advanced engineering, featuring a 10kW lithium-ion battery. It boasts an ARAI-certified range of 203 kilometres and an actual on-road range of approximately 155 +/- 5km on a full charge. To assure customers of its reliability, Montra Electric offers a comprehensive 3-year / 100,000km warranty, along with an optional extended warranty of an additional two years/50km.

Piyush Pandey, who leads Marketing & Exports at Montra Electric, shared his thoughts during the launch of the Super Auto. He described it as a breakthrough in innovation and design, with unique features that are expected to transform the market. Pandey emphasized that the vehicle would offer considerable savings in fuel and maintenance, thus improving the return on investment for customers. He also noted that users would enjoy an enhanced experience with this high-end three-wheeler. At Montra Electric, their mission is to create long-lasting vehicles that contribute to protecting the environment for upcoming generations.

N Senthil Kumar, the Managing Director of RR Greenline Motors and a dealer partner for Montra Electric in Tirunelveli, pointed out the economic and ecological advantages of the vehicle. He mentioned that electric autos are not only environmentally friendly but also financially beneficial. They can help drivers save between Rs 300 to Rs 400 daily on fuel costs, considering their average daily usage of 100-150km.

In November, the Montra Super Auto was recognized internationally, winning the Red Dot Design Award for 2023 in the ‘Design Concept’ category under ‘Innovative Last Mile Mobility Electric Passenger Vehicle’. This award-winning vehicle reaches a top speed of 55kph, accelerates from 0-20kph in just 4 seconds, and has a seating capacity for four, including the driver. It delivers a peak power of 10kW and a torque of 60 Nm. Available in two variants – the ePV and ePV 2.0 – the Super Auto’s dimensions are 2855mm in length, 1350mm in width, and 1750mm in height.

The Montra brand was introduced by TI Cycles of India (TII), a Murugappa Group entity, in December 2021 to spearhead the group’s foray into the EV market, focusing on last-mile commute, delivery, and personal mobility. Initially, the company targeted Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana for its rollouts, with the Super Auto now accessible through multiple touchpoints in these states.
