Monday, January 5, 2015: Puducherry is soon going to get a 3D manufacturing facility, thanks to the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) who will be setting them up in assistance with some international partners, as announced recently at CII interactive session organised in the city recently. This is being done in flow with the fast emerging technologies. This is also in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign that invites and enables the foreign companies to set up their manufacturing units in the country.
So once the industry verifies this and starts giving its responses in the form of ideas, assistance in setting up the facility will be given by the Manufacturing Technology Centre, United Kingdom and Fraunhofer Institute, Germany. This will be welcome step for the country by two European firms who will make their presence felt soon. To give further updates on this, Amarendra Sinha, Special Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, said in the interactive session that the design of the facility is already complete and hence is expected to be up and running in two years from now. Apart from Amarendra Sinha, T M Balakrishnan, commissioner-cum-secretary to Government of Puducherry and Chetan B Sanghi, chief secretary to Government of Puducherry were also present in this interactive session to give important updates on the industry.
