Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers Association (TECA), Coimbatore has urged the State Government to allot land in the new industrial estates proposed to be launched in the southern districts for solar power generation.
TECA also hails an industrial estate’s move to manufacture solar power panels in Tirunelveli which according to them would give a boost to the energy sector of solar power generation.
In response to the announcement of chief minister J. Jayalalitha’s stating the launch of a multiple industrial estates in the South, president of TECA, D. Balasundharam, requested the CM to allocate a part of land in all of these estates for solar power generation. Taking the reference of the fact that these new industrial estates would definitely have electrical sub-stations for power distribution, Balasundharam said that the same infrastructure could be utilized for solar power generation facility in these estates.
He also suggested that the industrial units can jointly start a Group Captive Generation scheme in the estates to generate solar power.
Balasundharam appreciated and welcomed the proposal of establishing a new renewable energy hub in Tirunelveli. The whole new hub will produce solar power panels, which in turn would definitely boost up the development rate of solar power manufacturing and usage in the State. This initiative would also lead towards the development of solar power equipment manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu as envisaged by the Solar Power policy by the State Government.
