The new telecom policy will ensure sustainable access to digital communications and will create 40 lakhs new jobs
The new telecom policy named as National Digital Communications Policy is expected to be placed before the Cabinet for approval in two weeks.
The government has recently issued the National Digital Communications Policy (NDCP) which is still in queue to get approved. It is expected that once it gets approved, will set the roadmap for attracting investment of around Rs 6.5 lakh crore in the sector. Ultimately, creating 40 lakh new job opportunities.
The new telecom policy will be able to provide broadband access to all with 50 Mbps speed, 5G services and will also create new jobs in the upcoming years. High spectrum prices and charges have been the main concern of the telecom services sector which is already under a debt of approximately Rs 7.8 lakh crore. Therefore, it proposes to adopt optimal pricing of spectrum to strengthen sustainable access to digital communications.
Aruna Sundararajan, telecom secretary told that the Department of Telecom (DoT) has completed inter-ministerial consultation on the new policy. It is now working on some of the processes which are required to be fulfilled before the draft is submitted to the cabinet for the approval. On the sidelines of the BSNL event, She also mentioned that this new telecom policy is likely to be placed in two weeks.
