The plant is expected to employ around 150 people when production begins, with the workforce projected to grow to nearly 250 employees at full production capacity.
NGK Corporation has recently announced plans to establish a new production facility for semiconductor manufacturing ceramics in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.
The company has planned to allocate around ₹42 billion in the project. The commercial production will begin in October 2029. To expand the business, the company has purchased approximately 104,000 square metres of land near its existing automotive manufacturing operations in Nomi City. The construction work will start in April 2027.
It will be operated by NGK CERAMIC DEVICE Co., Ltd. and is expected to increase the group’s production capacity for semiconductor equipment ceramics by nearly 20 per cent.
The facility will manufacture ceramic components called susceptors, which are used to support silicon wafers during semiconductor production. These components are designed to withstand high temperatures, corrosive gases, and plasma environments used in advanced chip manufacturing.
According to NGK Corporation, the growing demand for semiconductors, driven by mobile devices, generative AI, and expanding data centre infrastructure, is expected to support long-term market growth. The company also said investments in advanced logic and memory chip technologies are increasing demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment and related components.
Besides expanding production capacity, the new Ishikawa facility is expected to strengthen supply chain resilience and improve business continuity, as most of the company’s semiconductor ceramics operations are currently concentrated in Japan’s Tokai region.
