After agreeing to deploy 4G and Voice over LTE services in India, Nokia and BSNL have announced to work together towards 5G and smart manufacturing
Finnish telecom equipment maker, Nokia and state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have partnered to advance the rolling out of 5G services in India. It plans to use its Chennai unit for the purpose.
Anupam Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL informed that it had been closely working with Nokia to develop the 5G ecosystem in the country and the goal was to explore use cases like Industry 4.0 which can be benefitted with the support of the new technology.
The telecom provider aims to tap into the opportunities generated by 5G and Internet of things (IoT) in India. The BSNL head informed that the Chennai plant would work towards the adoption of Industry 4.0 solutions – Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), connected Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics and Internet of Things (IoT) to enhance operations and increase productivity to bring out operational efficiency and reduced costs.
Smart workspace
BSNL and Nokia will be working together in the latter’s Chennai facility for smart manufacturing in the 5G era. Sanjay Malik, Vice President and Head of the India Market, Nokia informed that the BSNL-Nokia alliance would boost the adoption of latest technologies in the telecom services as well as manufacturing units. He also expressed his belief that this would further help in setting up a digitised and connected workspace. Nokia’s Chennai facility produces telecom equipment to cater to local and global clients.
BSNL has been tying up with several telecom equipment makers to pave its 5G path. It had earlier partnered with Nokia to support the launch of 4G and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in western and southern regions of India.
